PARACETAMOL
Dosage form Tablets, 500 mg; Suppositories, 125 mg
Uses
Indications: For relief of various types of pain including headache, toothache, rheumatism, neuralgia, for decrease of temperature in patients with febrile diseases.
Properties: Paracetamol is one of the most important drugs with analgesic and antipyretic actions. It is generally well tolerated in therapeutic doses. Paracetamol is readily absorbed from the gastro-intestinal tract and distributed throughout the body fluids. It is a potent alternative for patients sensitive to acetylsalicylic acid.
Administration Usual adult dosagel to 2 tablets of 500 mg twice to thrice daily. Children 3-6 years 150-250 mg up to 4 times daily, 6-12 years 200-250 mg up to 4 times daily.
Administration to children, 2 months to 3 years of age only on physician's I advice.
Usual dosage: 2 months to I year 50-100 mg, I year to 3 years 100-150 mg up to 4 times daily.
Observe
Side effects: Adequately dosed, Paracetamol is well tolerated: mild forms of haematological reactions, skin eruptions may occur occasionally.
Contra-indications: Severe impairments of renal function, haemolytic anaemia. Care should be exercised in patients with impaired renal or hepatic function.
Symptoms and treatment of overdosage: Vomiting, gastro-intestinal haemorrhage, liver damage, cerebral oedema, renal tubular recrosis, hyperglycaemia, and hypoglycaemia may occur after overdosage. In severe poisoning stomach should be emptied by aspiration and lavage and a saline purgative should be applied to promote peristalsis.
Storage Store in a cool and dry place in airtight container, away from light. Keep out of reach of children. |
