INDOMETHACIN

Dosage form Tablets, 25 mg

Uses
Indications: Indomethacin is suitable in treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, arthrosis deformans, spondylarthrosis, cosarthrosis, periarthritis humeroscapularis, bursitis, tenditis, and tendovaginitis. Further indications are: sciatica, intercostalneuritis, and cervical disc syndrome; also in skin diseases (pemphigus); gout, nephrotic syndrome, and other diseases of kidney; postoperative pain, inflammations, and edema.
Properties: Indomethacin has analgesic, antiinflammatory and antipyretic actions. It is particularly effective in the active form of rheumatoid arthritis.

Administration: The exact dosage should be determined by physician, according to patient's need. Following usual dosages are recommended: initially 25 mg 2 to 3 times daily. If necessary daily increase by 25 mg. 150 mg daily are even in severe cases sufficient. Therapy may be initiated with suppositories. Adults usually take 100 mg to 200 mg daily in several doses. Generally 100 mg in the evening is sufficient.
Oral presentations of Indomethacin should be applied during meal.

Observe
Side-effects: Adequately dosed, generally no side effects occur. Following side effects have been observed occasionally; gastro-intestinal disturbances, kidney damage, and somnolence (especially in high doses). Central nervous reactions like headache, vertigo, confusion, drowsiness, epileptic seizures, depression and psychic disturbances are possible.

Contra-indications: Indomethacin should not be used in case of gastrointestinal ulcer, and in pregnancy. In case of hypersensibility the possible cross-reaction with other not steroidal antiphlogistics and antirheumatics is to be considered. Indomethacin should also not be applied in children of less than 14 years of age; Suppositories should not be applied in case of Proctitis.
Remarks: The danger of gastro-intestinal bleedings is increased, where corticoids are administered simultaneously. Concomitant administration of Sulfinpyrazon leads to reduction of uricosuric action and reduction of excretion of prostaglandin-synthesis inhibitor. When Spironolacton is administered at the same time, its action maybe reduced.
Caution: This medicament may influence the reactivity so that ability of participation in traffic is impaired.

Storage: Store in a cool and dry place in airtight container, away from light. Keep out of reach of children.
