| Tablets, 300 mg Indications: Acetylsalicylic acid is recommended for the relief of moderate pain and for the treatment of rheumatic and associated conditions and of influenza and feverishness. Acetylsalicylic acid provides for the relief of pain and/or reduction of fever associated with upper respiratory tract infections and other painful or febrile disorders. It is relatively ineffective, however, against most types of pain of visceral origin. Properties: Acetylsalicylic acid has analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic properties. It is rapidly absorbed from the upper gastro-intestinal tract and its effects become apparent within a short time. It is eliminated by the kidneys, excretion beginning shortly after it is administered. Acetylsalicylic acid is given by mouth in a dose of 300 to 900 mg. Up to 3,6 g may be given daily in divided doses. For acute episodes, 3,6 to 7,2 g is administered daily in divided doses. For the control of chronic rheumatic disease, 300 to 900 mg every four hours over long periods. Acetylsalicylic acid should not be given to children under one year of age except under medical supervision. The usual dosage as an analgesic for a child from 1 to 2 years is 75 to 150 mg not more than four times daily, from 3 to 5 years 225 to 300 mg not more than three times daily, and from 6 to 12 years 300 mg not more than four times daily. These doses should not be employed for more than two days except under medical supervision. Symptoms of gastric irritation may be reduced by taking Acetylsalicylic acid after food or with plenty of fluid. Side-effects: Unlikely to occur at the recommended dosage. Contra-indication: True hypersensitivity to salicylates. Overdosage: Conventional treatment for salicylate overdosage should be employed: Gastric lavage, forced alkaline diuresis and supportive therapy. Store in a cool and dry place in airtight container, away from light. Keep out of reach of children. |
